Evidence of conglomeratization, globalization, horizontal integration, vertical integration, and media synergy
Horizontel Integration – During the 1980’s, pro-wrestling was controlled by small companies located in different territories of the United States. In 1982, Vincent McMahon Jr. bought the New York based company, World Wide Wrestling Federation from his father Vince McMahon Sr. He then took the most skilled and best wrestlers from each territory over the United States to try form a wrestling monopoly which did not go so well. In the early 1990’s, Ted Turner financed World Championship Wrestling (WCW) to go againstMcMahon’s World Wrestling Federation. In 2001, McMahon bought Ted Turner’s WCW along with the intellectual property and wrestlers. They have also acquired the intellectual property and wrestlers of former competitors Extreme Championship Wrestling . In 2009, WWE Superstars first aired on WGN. It was an hour long show with three matches. In 2011, it took a turn for the worst and went off air. The show still produces internationally. World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) now owns all of these competitors.
Globalization – The WWE performs in 145 countries, broadcasted in 30 differn't languages, and shown in over 600 million homes worlwide.
Vertical Integration – Since WWE owns the rights to almost all of the most successful wrestling and companies since the 1980’s, they can market that too and make money off their retired wrestlers. They can produce a DVD and market it on their WWE programming on their highly rated cable shows. They can do the same with Album’s. WWE Studios produces movies with wrestlers starring in them. This can be advertised in commercials on television, segments on television, interviews with the wrestlers, and commercials on DVD’s. They also own an on-demand cable network called, WWE 24-7, which showcases classic matches and events all day long. This has a lot to do with their success as a business.
Conglomeratization – Movies, albums, books, and magazines are an example of media conglomeratization which also brings a load of success and money to the company
..
Media Synergy – The WWE does not mess with other businesses to try to create more money. The only thing they do that with is their studio films.
